Lawn Mowing

Not only does a consistently cut lawn look more appealing, it is also a vital action for the health of your lawn:

  • Keeping your grass at a uniform length ensures that the entire lawn has equal exposure to the sun, water and any treatments that may be added.

  • You should never cut the grass by more than 1/3 of its height as this damages the lawn and leaves it weakened as susceptible to weeds.

  • Mowing helps grass grow thicker as the tip of each blade contains a hormone that suppress horizontal growth. When you cut the lawn, you remove these tips allowing the grass to spread and grow thicker near the roots, thereby promoting strong root growth which leads to a stronger, healthier lawn over time.

  • You should never mow grass with a blunt mower blade which tears the blades of grass rather than leaving a clean cut; torn blades of grass are again susceptible to disease.

  • You should not mow in the same direction every time as this will help the grass to grow straighter and also reduce the ruts that can be caused by mower wheels.
